Follow WE ARE HIRING: STUDENT COUNSELLORS The University of Lusaka is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following position: Student Counsellors. As a Student Counsellor you will be responsible for providing professional counselling and psychosocial support services to students to promote their mental health, emotional wellbeing, academic success, personal development, crisis intervention, guidance on personal, social, and academic challenges. The overall purpose of this position is to assist the Dean of Students in the management of matters relating to student affairs at the University. Participate in the planning and implementation of an annual calendar scheduling all student activities which include but are not limited to sporting activities, seminars, talks and focus discussion groups on various relevant and contemporary life and psychological issues. Ensure that all matters relating to student welfare are brought to the attention of the Dean of Students. Managing the recreational, social-cultural and extracurricular programs for students. Guiding students on the appropriation of funds and control expenditure in accordance with laid down procedures to ensure proper utilization of resources. Providing individual or group counselling in relation to personal, social and academic issues, and referral to appropriate support services where necessary. Providing career guidance to prospective students. Enforce the rules and regulations of the University by way of interpreting the Student Handbook. Create links and collaboration with institutions that manage psychological issues. Assist the Dean of Students in liaising with student union leadership and offering guidance on student affairs in order to maintain harmony. Administer first aid to students and staff. A Degree in Psychology or related field. Diploma in Nursing or Clinical Medicine will be an added advantage. Three (3) years’ experience in a similar position in an academic institution will be an added advantage. Mature and minimum of 40 years old. Excellent interpersonal skills. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to work under minimum supervision. Must have high levels of confidentiality.
