Job Description

Occupational Health and Safety Institute (OHSI) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Labour and Social Security established under the Occupational Health and Safety Act No. 16 of 2025, has its main Offices situated in Kitwe with two branch offices in Solwezi and Lusaka. In addition to the 3 centres, the Institute also offers occupational health and safety (OHS) services to all the sectors throughout the country on outreach basis. The Institute is looking for suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill the following positions of; 1.0 GENERAL MEDICAL OFFICER [1 POSITION] JOB OBJECTIVE To prevent and manage work-related disease conditions in order to ensure that employees remain healthy and safe in their work environments. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Undertake timely and accurately medical examination of employees and prospective employees at the station and on outreach programme to ensure fitness for work; Conduct health surveillance of employees and retirees to monitor their health trends and identify work-related illnesses early for early intervention at the station and on outreach programme; Timely interpretation and accurate preparation of vital signs reports for decision making; Promote and raise awareness on OHS; Undertake or participate in OHS research; Undertakes teaching and training in OHS of students in order to impart knowledge and skills; and Supervises effectively utilization of human and other resources in the department in order to attain set objectives. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Grade 12 School Certificate or equivalent Minimum Vocational/Professional Qualifications: MBChB or equivalent Qualification in OHS will be an added advantage Minimum relevant pre-job experience: 4 years working experience in the similar field Registered Member of the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) Valid Practicing License Computer literate with knowledge of statistical- analytical software Able to write comprehensive and analytical reports Analytical, Team Player, Innovative and Leadership qualities 2.0 OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH NURSE [1 POSITION] JOB OBJECTIVE To promote and maintain the health and safety and overall well-being of workers in a workplace by identifying health risks, preventing illness or injury, and ensuring that the workplace meets health and safety regulations. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Conduct health screening of clients and workers to ascertain their health status; Undertake timely and accurately recording of vital signs and preparation of reports in order to facilitate decision making; Identify potential hazards and health risks and advises on the control measures to prevent ill-health; Implement preventive strategies such as wellness programmes, health education and regular counselling of clients and workers on health and safety related matters; Administer timely and correctly, first aid care in order to relieve pain; and Undertake timely updating of Registers in order to enhance record keeping. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Grade 12 School Certificate or relevant qualification; Diploma in Nursing or equivalent; Qualifications in Occupational Health field is an added advantage; 5 Years pre-job experience; Registered Member of the General Nursing Council of Zambia; Valid Practicing License; Good communication Skills; Able to write technical reports; and Computer literate, sober habits, trustworthy, leadership, honesty and integrity. 3.0 RADIOGRAPHER [1 POSITION] JOB OBJECTIVE To conduct the production of radiological images in order to facilitate medical decisions DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Conduct effectively the production of radiological images in order to facilitate medical diagnosis; Conduct effectively the implementation of standard operating procedures in order to maintain high radiological standards; and Conduct effectively the implementation of radiation protection measures in order to protect the public, client and the operator from the effects of ionizing radiation QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Grade 12 School Certificate or relevant qualification; Diploma in Diagnostic Radiography; 5 Years pre-job experience; Registered Member of the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ); Good communication Skills; Able to write technical reports; and Computer literate, sober habits, trustworthy, leadership, honesty and integrity. 4.0 BIOMEDICAL SCIENTIST [1 POSITION] JOB OBJECTIVE To undertake the provision of diagnostic biomedical laboratory services to support medical surveillance and facilitate decision-making DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Undertakes effectively the provision of routine laboratory tests services in order to support medical surveillance and facilitate decision-making; Conduct customized laboratory tests tailored to specific occupational exposures in order to facilitate comprehensive health monitoring and decision making; Undertake effectively the laboratory quality management system in order to ensure analytical and diagnostic services comply with ISO standards for quality assurance; Undertake effectively the recording of and reporting of laboratory data and results in order to facilitate easy retrieval and decision making; QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Grade 12 School Certificate or relevant qualification; Diploma in Biomedical Sciences; 5 Years pre-job experience; Registered Member of the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ); Good communication Skills; Able to write technical reports; and Computer literate, sober habits, trustworthy, leadership, honesty and integrity 5.0 ASSISTANT CLIENT SERVICE OFFICER – FRONT OFFICE [1 POSITION] JOB OBJECTIVE To undertake the allocation of bookings and collection of diagnosis results in order to enhance accessibility, security and flow of information DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Conduct effectively the accurate allocation of booking for scheduled medical examinations in order to facilitate decision making; Undertake effectively the collection and distribution of medical diagnosis results in order to facilitate decision making; Undertake effectively the accurate classification of diagnosis medical records and correspondence in order to facilitate efficient storage and retrieval of information; and Undertake effectively the accurate classification of records in order to facilitate efficient record keeping. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Grade 12 School Certificate or relevant qualification; Certificate in Records Management or equivalent; 3 Years pre-job experience; Good communication Skills; and Computer literate, sober habits, trustworthy, honesty and integrity.
