About The Project:
Frankfurt Zoological Society (FZS) is an international conservation organisation dedicated to conserving wildlife and ecosystems in some of the world’s most outstanding wild places. FZS implements long-term conservation programmes across Africa, South America, Asia, and Europe.
In Zambia, FZS operates through the North Luangwa Conservation Programme (NLCP). Under the EU NaturAfrica–funded Connecting Livelihoods and Landscape (CoLiLa) Project, FZS is expanding its work within the Malawi–Zambia Transfrontier Conservation Area (MAZA TFCA), strengthening biodiversity conservation, inclusive livelihoods, and rights-based community governance.
About The Position:
The Community Education Assistant will lead and support environmental education, awareness, and social behaviour change activities in priority communities under the EU NaturAfrica CoLiLa Project. The role focuses on building conservation knowledge, stewardship, and positive attitudes toward natural resource management among school pupils, youth, and adults.
Working closely with schools, community groups, and project field teams, the position will help ensure that the Landscape Integration Unit, through conservation education activities contribute directly to project outcomes on governance, livelihoods, HWCoex, and biodiversity conservation.
Your Tasks:
The Community Education Assistant will:
Plan and deliver environmental education programmes in schools and communities
Support establishment and mentoring of school conservation clubs and Adult Mini-Change Groups (MCGs)
Develop and adapt education materials and curricula aligned with local context and project priorities
Facilitate community awareness sessions on conservation, sustainable livelihoods, and HWCoex
Support behaviour change and social dialogue activities linked to conservation outcomes
Work with Traditional Authorities, teachers, and community leaders to promote conservation stewardship
Document education and outreach activities for MERL reporting
Ensure education activities align with EU safeguards, gender inclusion, and visibility requirements
Support community events, campaigns, and learning exchanges
Perform any other duties required to support effective project delivery.
Your Profile:
Qualifications
Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Education, Education, Natural Resource Management, Community Development, or a related field
Training in facilitation, adult learning, or environmental education is an advantage
Experience
Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in environmental education, community outreach, or conservation awareness
Experience working with schools, youth groups, or community organisations
Practical experience facilitating participatory learning activities
Experience working in rural or remote communities
Familiarity with donor-funded projects is an advantage
