FARM WORKER – CROPS & HORTICULTURE

We are looking for a hardworking and experienced Farm Worker to assist with crop production, vegetable farming and the planting and maintenance of fruit trees.The successful candidate should have practical experience working with different crops, vegetables and fruit trees and should be comfortable carrying out physical farm work.Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare land and planting areas for crops and vegetables.Plant and maintain various field crops and vegetables.Plant, transplant and establish fruit trees and other plants.Water crops, vegetables and fruit trees as required.Carry out regular weeding around crops and trees.Apply manure, compost and fertilizers as instructed.Assist with pest and disease control.Identify plants that are unhealthy, damaged or affected by pests and report them.Prune and maintain fruit trees as required.Mulch around fruit trees and other plants.Maintain vegetable gardens and nurseries.Replace dead or damaged plants.Assist with installation and maintenance of basic irrigation and drip systems.Assist with harvesting, sorting and handling of farm produce.Keep planting areas clean and free from weeds and unnecessary vegetation.Use farm tools and equipment safely and correctly.Carry out general farm duties as assigned by the Farm Manager.Ensure assigned work is completed properly and on time.RequirementsPrevious practical farm work experience is required.Experience growing crops and vegetables.Experience planting and maintaining fruit trees is highly desirable.Basic knowledge of watering, weeding, fertilizing, pruning and general plant care.Ability to recognize common plant pests and diseases is an advantage.Previous experience with irrigation or drip irrigation is an advantage.Agricultural training or certificate is an advantage but not essential.Must be physically fit and comfortable working outdoors.Must be willing to perform manual farm work.Personal QualitiesThe successful candidate must be:HardworkingReliable and punctualHonest and trustworthyPhysically fitWilling to learnAble to follow instructionsCareful with plants, tools and farm inputsAble to work independently when given a taskComfortable working in hot, dusty and outdoor conditionsImportantThis is a hands-on farm worker position, not a management or supervisory position.Candidates with practical experience working with vegetables, crops and fruit trees are encouraged to apply.
