CAREER OPPORTUNITY The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is the implementing agency of the Federal Republic of Germany for technical and international cooperation. It offers flexible, sustainable and effective solutions in political, economic and social change processes. Most of the work of GIZ is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). GIZ also operates on behalf of other German ministries as well as public and private bodies in Germany and abroad. These include the European Commission, the United Nations, the World Bank and governments of other countries. The IKI global project “Integrated Climate Services for Transformative Climate Action (CISTA)” works on improved climate services that combine weather, climate and sector data to make climate risk management more effective. In Guatemala, Pakistan and Zambia, CISTA supports the use of these services for climate and biodiversity policy by establishing governance frameworks and building technical capacities. Tools for disseminating climate information and for climate risk management are developed with communities and affected sectors, taking into account the specific needs of women and disadvantaged groups. The project is being implemented in partnership with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). In Zambia, the project is closely working with the Zambia Meteorological Department and the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment.In this context, the project is seeking a suitable candidate for the following position: Advisor Climate Information Services (Salary Band 4) – based in LusakaREF: GIZ_IKI_CISAMain tasks and responsibilities:Give advisory on climate services and its role in climate risk management (with a focus on agriculture) to government institutions such as Zambia Meteorological Department, Ministry of Green Economy and Environment, Disaster Mitigation and Management Unit and Ministry of AgricultureIdentify and develop sectoral climate risk management entry points (e.g. (sector) NAPs, NBSAPs, NDC, etc.Promote and further develop climate/weather risk management tools such as E-PICSACoordinate with government entities, civil society, private sector, academia and development partnersManage contract and grants relating to climate services and climate risk managementKnowledge management, M&E and communication Assist the project manager with the management of project activities, including administrative and logistical processesWhen requested, support activities linked to the GIZ Agri-Food ClusterQualifications and Requirements:Bachelors degree in climate science, climate/disaster risk management, geography or comparable course of studyMasters degree preferredApplicants are expected to have their academic certificates verified by Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA). Professional experienceAt least 5 years professional experience in climate advisory or climate/disaster risk managementMinimum of 5 years work experience in collaborating with Zambian government institutionsExperience in managing consultants/grants is desirableOther knowledge and additional competences Good working knowledge of ICT (related software, email, the internet) and computer applications (MS Office, MS Teams)Fluency in English, both written and oralStrong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills and ability to work effectively in a multicultural and multidisciplinary teamAbility to work responsibly, effectively and in a target-oriented manner under minimal supervisionThe successful candidate will be expected to start employment with GIZ, on a fixed term contract. Application deadline: 28 May 2026Please understand that we can only accept and process applications via our E-recruiting system (link).
