VACANCY : Data Protection Officer
LEVEL : Senior Manager – Band 4B
LOCATION : Lusaka, HQ
JOB PURPOSE
The Data Protection Officer (DPO) will be responsible for leading the design, implementation, monitoring, and testing of the OpCo’s data protection and privacy compliance programme in line with applicable laws, regulatory requirements, and Airtel Group privacy standards.
This role involves developing, reviewing, and strengthening privacy frameworks, policies, procedures, controls, and practices to protect personal data, manage privacy risks, and embed accountability across the business.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES ARE:
1.] Data Privacy Governance
Ensure the organization’s compliance with applicable data protection laws in Zambia and internal privacy standards.
Develop and implement internal privacy policies and procedures aligned with legal requirements and industry standards.
Maintain and monitor the OpCo’s privacy compliance obligations register.
Monitor regulatory developments and advise the business on privacy obligations and risks.
Support implementation of the OpCo privacy strategy aligned with Airtel Group objectives.

2.] Data Privacy Management
Conduct Data Privacy Impact Assessments (DPIAs) to identify and mitigate risks.
Ensure Privacy by Design and Privacy by Default principles are implemented.
Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure lawful data processing.
Act as primary contact for privacy incidents and data breaches.
Review data flows, sharing, retention, and cross-border transfers.
Conduct periodic compliance monitoring and control testing.
Oversee privacy requirements for third-party vendors and partners.
3.] Training and Awareness
Develop and deliver privacy training programs for employees, management, and Board members.
Promote a culture of privacy compliance across the organization.
4.] Reporting
Prepare compliance reports for the Risk Committee and Board Audit & Risk Committee.
Support preparation of regulatory and Board reports.
REQUIREMENTS
Educational Qualifications & Functional / Technical Skills:
Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Business, Finance, Computer Science, or related field.
Certification such as CIPP, CIPT, or CIPM is required.
Relevant Experience:
Minimum 7 years of experience in data privacy compliance programs.
Experience in telecom, fintech, financial services, or regulated industries preferred.
Competencies Required For The Post
Strong understanding of data protection laws and governance frameworks.
Ability to prepare clear and concise management reports.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
Strong stakeholder management and cultural sensitivity.
High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
